MUNICH KANGAROOS FAQ
1. Why the Munich Kangaroos?
Probably because of the colours. The colours of the North Melbourne Kangaroos are blue and white. These are also the colours of the state of Bavaria, of which Munich is the capital city.
2. Why is the club song based on the Carlton Blue’s club song?
This is based on the fact that „we are the navy blues“ and „we are the kangaroos“ have the same amount of syllables. It’s a phonetics thing..
3. Who can play for the Munich Kangaroos?
Everybody is welcome to join the club as either a player or a social club member. The youngest member of our club is 18 years old whilst the oldest is more than 50 years old. Unfortunately there is no womens league as such, but female fans of the club are welcome to become social club members.
4. Do I have to be fit?
That is very relative. In general, yes. Most of the game consists of running and sprinting. The fitter you are, the more you will get out of the game personally.
5. I’m keen to play, what do I do now?
You can simply turn up to a training night and participate or introduce yourself first by sending us an e-mail on the contact us page.
6. How many players play the game?
An official AFL game has 18 players on the ground per side plus interchange players on the bench. So total players on the ground excluding umpires is 36. An AFLG game has a bit less. We can field as much as 18 or as little as 14 players per side.
7. Are the Munich Kangaroos successful?
The Munich Kangaroos won the first premiership of the AFLG in 2003, followed up by wins in 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012 (all 16-a-side) and the last one in 2015 (9-a-side).
